Protect your cyber identity
When using MySpace, Facebook or other social networks, do not share your date of birth, Social Security number or credit card numbers with anyone online. Computers now are common in the classroom, as well as for homework and projects. And, schools traditionally are open environments that may not have as much protection as corporate workplaces. Protecting your identity at school
1. Don’t let the school use your SSN as a student ID .
2. Don’t assume your school is protecting you.
3. Protect your password.
4. Configure peer to peer file sharing programs securely.
5. Never enter private information on public computers such as in the library or cafeteria.
6. Install software updates and fixes weekly or monthly.
7. Don’t leave your laptop unattended at the library or school cafeteria.
8. Never e-mail or instant message personal information .
9. Stay secure when wireless.
10. Do not store personal information on your computer unprotected.
