They had been inseparable in
college, Mary Stuart, Tanya, and Zoe. But in the more than twenty years that followed, the three had moved on with their lives, settled in different cities, and found successful careers and new roles as mothers and wives. Despite the honesty they once shared, now pretense between them runs high. Mary Stuart Walker, married for twenty-two years to a Manhattan lawyer, kept herself busy with volunteer work, and now masks the loneliness that consumes her life. A year has past, and Mary Stuart still hasn't gotten over the guilt, or the fear that her husband will never forgive her for their son's death...

Unplug for Monstrous Savings

Kill the real power vampires. Tulsa World 5/5/10 by Phil Mulkins.

Invest in a power strip to save electricity this summer. Even when you turn off many household machines, they’re still on, draining electricity like a vampire. Standby power is sucked from outlets while the devices plugged into them aren’t actually in use.

The average amount of power that is wasted by homes often is 10% the total consumed. At $2,200 spent annually on power, 10% saved would be $220.

Annual power cost: video games consoles $23, Computers $74, Microwave $26, Stereo $38, TV $37, DVD Player $13.5. These same items would cost $3 if plugged into a power strip and by turning off the power strip when not in use.

Travis Parker has every thing a man could want: a good job, loyal friends, even a waterfront home in small-town North Carolina.
In full pursuit of the good life-boating, swimming, and regular barbecues with his close buddies-he holds the vague conviction that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. Save Money on Laundry Detergent

Recipe for making your own laundry detergent:

4 cups of water, 1/3 bar of cheap soap, grated, 1/2 cup of washing soda (not baking soda), 1/2 cup Borax (20 mule team), 5-gallon bucket, 3 gallons water
Mix grated soap in sauce pan with 4 C water until soap is dissolved, add mixture to 3 gallons of water in 5-gal. Bucket, stir in washing soda and Borax, stir until thickened, let set 24 hrs.
Cost per load 2 cents, store bought detergent is 20 cents per load or higher.
Studies say that you don’t need soap at all, just use water in your washing machine. At least you can try using 1/2 the detergent you usually do and see if that cleans your clothes just as well.

A Guide to Cultivating Compassion with 7 Practices

For full instructions see http://zenhabits.net/2007/06/a-guide-to-cultivating-compassion-in-your-life-with-7-practices/

Greet each morning with a ritual reminding yourself of your good fortunes.

Practice empathy for your fellow human beings.

Commonalities practice– instead of recognizing difference between yourself & others, recognize what you have in common.

Relief of Suffering-open your heart to someone you know that is suffering.

Act of Kindness-do something tiny each day to help another, a smile or kind word.

Those who mistreat us– instead of acting in anger try to understand the background of that person to understand why they act the way that they do.

Evening routine– spend some time reflecting on your day and how you treated others.

Quotations About Spring

Springtime is the land awakening The March winds are the morning yawn-quoted by Lewis Grizzard

Spring is natures way of saying , ‘Lets Party’-Robin Williams

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade-Charles Dickens

It’s Spring Fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it , you want-oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!-Mark Twain

Swine Not? A Novel Pig Tale by Jimmy Buffett only $1.50

Hard Cover - Used - Humor
When Southern belle Ellie McBride moves her twins from Vertigo, Tennessee, to New York City, they wouldn't dream of leaving behind the family pig Rumpy. But the posh hotel where Ellie has found work (and living space) has "No Pets" writ large on its portal
So hiding Rumpy from the hotel staff--especially the ultra-carnivorous hotel chef, who would like nothing better than to transform their pet into pork roast--becomes imperative. Can a talented, sensitive pig survive the claustrophobic, neurotic stresses of life in the Big Apple? Can the McBride twins keep their precious pet from becoming the chef's favorite entree? Get ready for a wonderful ride as master storyteller Jimmy Buffett takes readers on a brilliantly funny romp through Manhattan and beyond. From spoiled rock stars to highly caffeinated football coaches, Buffett's satirical view of American culture never ceases to bite and delight.

Check out the site. The examples they give are very reduced prices. There is a monthly membership fee of $29.99. I think I’m going to try it, the savings would need to be substantial to pay for the monthly membership. I have heard on the news that some are unhappy with it because they don’t always have all items in stock. There is an incentive program where you can
bring in new members and receive larger discounts or bonuses for yourself. Purchasing
online would save time and gas money, the groceries are delivered
to your door.

Pickup gift boxes through-out the year to use at Christmas time or any gift giving occasion.
You can find unique boxes, some ceramic at yard sales then uses that box as a gift box. Great
idea!

Go After Your Goals

Just a reminder that we all have goals or a wish of how we want our lives to be. If you are a ‘goal’ setter, you need no help in this area, you are probably working on your goals right now. If you need an ‘ambition push’ think about it….decide what you want and put a plan into action, work on your plan each & every day. (if nothing else a goal gives you a positive purpose, working towards something to better your life)
